Gearity Selected NJAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Montclair, NJ (5/9/11) – Freshman Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) earned her fourth honors from this season from the New Jersey Athletic Conference as she was named the conference's Track Athlete of the Week on Monday. It is the second award for Gearity this year in addition to two Rookie of the Week honors on April 18 and May 2.

A two-time NJAC Outdoor Rookie of the Week selection, Gearity earns her second Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor after traveling to Mahwah to compete at the NJAC Championships hosted by Ramapo. She placed first in a field of 10 competitors in the 400 meter hurdles with a conference-record and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:01.68. She also was a member of the Red Hawk’s NJAC Champion 4x400 meter relay which produced a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:53.35. She registered a Top 10 finish in the high jump (1.53 meters), and competed on MSU’s NJAC Champion 4x100 meter relay which produced an ECAC qualifying time of 48.91. The performances by Gearity helped the Red Hawks place fifth overall in the NJAC Championship.
