Montclair, NJ (5/16/11) – Freshman righthander Alex Lesch (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He becomes the third different rookie hurler to win the award this season joining Jonathan Torregroza (Bound Brook, NJ / Immaculata) and Dylan Papa (South Plainfield, NJ / South Plainfield), who combined to win four other times.
Lesch picked up his first collegiate victory as he came in relief and nailed down Montclair State's 7-3 win over Centennial Conference champion and NCAA Tournament bound Johns Hopkins. Lesch recorded the final 15 outs, including seven straight from the sixth to the ninth inning.
Lesch, who started off his appearance with a four=pitch fifth inning, struck out six and walked one.
