Men's Soccer Rolls Past John Jay, 9-0 as Freshman Shea Collects Hat Trick

Montclair, NJ (9/6/11) – Freshman midfielder Jesse Shea (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) collected a natural hat trick scoring the game's final three goals as Montclair State rolled past John Jay, 9-0 at a wet and soggy MSU Soccer Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Brandon Trojak (Lumberton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) had two assists as the Red Hawks improved to 2-0-1 in closing out their three-game homestand to open the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicholas Todaro (Dix Hills, NY / Half Hollow Hills) stopped nien shots for the Bloodhounds, who fell to 0-4 on the season.

Montclair State opened the scoring 9:23 into the contest as freshman Pablo Zegarra (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown)scored on a breakaway, depositing the ball into the lower corner of the net. The Red Hawks would extend their lead with two goals in a 29-second span. Freshman Maxx Wurzburger (Glen Rock, NJ / Glen Rock) got the first goal with an assist from Will O'Connor (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo) at the 18:41 mark. Dan Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ / Hackensack) followed with an unassited tally for his second of the year.

Kevin Zalewski (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) got the final score of the half as Montclair State led 4-0 at the break.

Freshman Brian Cullen (Clementon, NJ / Highland Regional) and O'Connor each scored inside the first 20 minutes of the second half tob boost the lead to 6-0. Shea then went on his scoring spree recording all three goals in a span of 4:29 with Trojak picking up the assist on the first and last.

Goalkeepers Anthony Rogic (Boonton, NJ / Morris Catholic) and Kevin Lynch (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson)combined on the shutout for MSU, the Red Hawks' second in three games this year.

Montclair now heads to the Pacific Northwest for games on Friday and Saturday, September 9-10 versus Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound, respectively.
