Dallas, PA (9/17/11) – Junior forward Kate Norgard (Columbia, NJ / North Warren) scored
a pair of goals as 20th-ranked Montclair State remained unbeaten with a
5-0 victory over Misericordia University at Mangelsdorf Field on
Saturday afternoon.
Junior Michelle Hagel (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex)
collected a pair of assists as the Red Hawks improved to 6-0 on the
year with victory in the first of their weekend games in Pennsylvania.
On Sunday, Montclair travels to Wilkes-Barre, PA to face King’s at 1:00
pm.
The Red Hawks earned a measure of revenge from last season when
the Cougars came to Sprague Field and recorded a 1-0 victory. This time
around MSU wouldn’t let that happen as they outshot Misericordia 24-3.
Despite the decisive margin in the shot column, MSU managed
just a 1-0 lead at halftime as Norgard scored off an assist from Hagel.
In the second half however, Montclair exploded for four goals. Brittany Carroll (Kingston, NY / Rondout Valley) registered an unassisted tally and Jennifer Tafro (Little Falls, NJ / Passaic Valley) added a goal to make the score 3-0. Allison Jillions (Hainesport, NJ / Holy Cross) finished off a pass from Hagel for the fourth goal before Norgard closed out the scoring with her second of the game with Molly Hartman (Pemberton, NJ / Pemberton) picking up the assist.
Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) made one save in the first 68 minutes before giving way to Laura Cummings (Ocean Township, NJ / Ocean) who finished up the game with a scoreless two minutes.
