Madison, NJ (9/23/11) - Junior Kate Norgard (Columbia, NJ / North Warren) collected a hat trick while Chelsea Keelen (Tinton Falls, NJ / Middletown South) and Michelle Hagel (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex)
each scored as No. 16 Montclair State is now off to the best start in
program history following a 5-0 blanking of FDU-Florham on Friday
evening.
Sophomore Brittany Carroll (Kingston, NY / Rondout Valley)
collected two assists as the Red Hawks improved to 9-0 on the year,
surpassing the starts of the 2007 and 2008 squads that began the year
with eight straight victories.
Keelen opened the scoring at the 10:55 mark of the contest with an
unassisted goal, her first of the season. Norgard added the next two as
she finished off a feed from Carroll at 20:13 of the first half and
then knocked in a pass from Brooke Hullings (Delran, NJ / Delran) seven minutes later as the Red Hawks led 3-0 at halftime.
Hagel made it a four-goal lead with 14:42 to play in the second half
before Norgard capped off Montclair’s scoring with 3:32 to go with her
third of the game and ninth of the season as she tied Carroll, who
assisted on the goal, for the team lead.
Meanwhile the Montclair State defense allowed just four shots and none
on goal as they outshot the Devils, 23-4 in the contest. MSU also had
nine penalty corners to FDU-Florham’s two.
Junioir goalkeeper Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) earned the shutout, her fourth of the season.
Montclair State is now off until Wednesday, September 28 when they
return home to Sprague Field for a 7:00 pm matchup at Sprague Field
with Ramapo College.
