Montclair, NJ (9/24/11) – The College of New
Jersey women's soccer team, ranked 19th in Division III, scored twice
in the opening half and then turned things over to its defense as the
Lions won their first straight game via shutout with a 2-0 win at
Montclair State on Saturday.
The win puts the Lions at 5-1 on the season and perfect 3-0 in the New
Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Red Hawks are an even 4-4 and 1-2
in the conference.
The Lions picked up their first goal of the first half 17:40 into the
game as Katie Landrigan (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) netted her second
goal of the year with an assist from Allyson Anderson (Point Pleasant,
NJ/Point Pleasant).
In the latter stages of the half, sophomore Katie Lindacher (Egg Harbor
Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) picked up her team-leading fifth goal of the
season. That goal came with 8:16 left before the break.
The teams then played a scoreless second half as each team had a shot on goal.
Freshman keeper Cristina Gacos (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) made one save for the shutout. Freshman Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) stopped three shots for Montclair State/
