Montclair, NJ (11/11/11) – The Montclair State
men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both evened their dual
meet records as the Red Hawks swept a dual meet from Drew University at
the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Friday evening.
The men’s team recorded a 100-84 victory while the women posted
a 107-83 triumph as both teams moved to 2-2 on the year.
Junior Thomas Long (Morristown, NJ / Morristown)
captured a pair of events as he won the 50 and 100 freestyles. Long
took top honors in the 50 free with a time of 22.48 before coming back
to post a time of 55.56 in the 100 free earning his second win of the
evening.
Michael Volski (Edison, NJ / Edison)
triumphed in the 200 freestyle (1:53.07) and Joseph Berry (Edison, NJ /
Edison) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:35.35. Zak Westerberg (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) led a 1-2-3 finish by MSU in the 400 individual medley registering a time of 4:38.91 and Nikolas Lumkong (Byrum, NJ / Pope John XXIII) took first in the 100 butterfly (57.15).
On the women’s side, junior Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge)
won three events – the 50 and 100 freestyles along with the 100
breaststroke. Vallone captured the 50 free with a time of 25.58 and the
100 free at 55.55. She completed her day with a time of 1:10.82 in the
100 breaststroke. Jessica Joseph (Brick, NJ / Brick Township) was second in the event (1:13.31).
Victoria Bischoff (Cape May, NJ / Wildwood Catholic) triumphed in the 100 butterfly (1:07.02) and Kelly Abner (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) won the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:56.10. Kelsie Donahue (Egg Harbor, NJ / Egg Harbor Township) and Jacky Moe (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) finished first and second, respectively in the 1000 freestyle with times of 11:5.17 and 12:12.29.
Montclair is now off until next Friday, November 18 when it
travels to Kutztown, PA to compete in the Golden Bear Invitational.
