Montclair, NJ (2/2/12) – Senior forward Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) was named the small college Player of the Month for January by njhoops.com.
August helped Montclair State to a 5-2 record during the first
month of 2012 as the Red Hawks placed themselves right in the thick of
things in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
He averaged 21.6 points per game over that span and 8.1
rebounds while shooting 55 percent from the field (51-of-93) and 73
percent (48-of-66) at the foul line. He also handed out 25 assists and
had six blocked shots and six steals.
August, who scored 20 or more points in six of the seven games,
opened the month with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds as
Montclair State clipped local rival William Paterson 80-79 in overtime
on January 4. He then posted back-to-back 22-point games against New
Jersey City and Rutgers-Camden before delivering 23 points and 15
rebounds as the Red Hawks topped Rowan, 79-74 on January 21. After
recording 19 points and four assists versus Ramapo, August closed out
the month with 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists as MSU downed
The College of New Jersey, 68-57 in Ewing.
August is currently ranked second in the NJAC in scoring,
rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots. In addition he is
ranked seventh in assists and 14th in free-throw shooting.
