For the fourth year, Montclair State University faculty and staff gathered in the Periodicals Reading Room of Sprague Library to recognize members of the University community who have recently published books, or released CDs or DVDs.

On display were 49 books, CDs, DVDs, and gallery exhibit catalogs, most produced in the past year, through the scholarship and creativity of members of the University community from every College and School, as well as University Advancement and the Segal Gallery.

The works on display reflected the depth and range of the research and interests of the authors. Books such as Zoe Burkholder’s Color in the Classroom: How American Schools Taught Race 1900 – 1954 (Oxford University Press), Kaled K. Hameide’s Fashion Branding Unraveled (Fashion Books), Jonathan Greenberg’s Modernism, Satire, and the Novel (Cambridge University Press), John Wang’s Supply Chain Optimization, Management and integration: Emerging Applications (Business Science Reference), and Meiyin Wu’s Wetland Plants of the Adirondacks (Trafford), exemplified the wide range of topics explored.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Willard Gingerich noted the increase in CDs and DVDS this year—a total of six. “As we become more and more electronic, we have to begin shifting our understanding of what a work of scholarship is, what a work of creative energy is,” he said. “So we now have a table of CDs and DVDs!”

Many faculty and staff were on hand to see what their colleagues have been producing, talk about the works on display, and share their own creations. Gingerich encouraged them in this saying, “It’s very important to come here and see these works for yourselves,...to see what’s going on. I hope one of the primary outcomes of the event is that you all make connections that you wouldn’t have made otherwise.”

Library Services Dean Judith Lin Hunt, who co-sponsored the event with Gingerich, said that among the new publications and releases this year were books in French, Spanish, and Turkish; five CDs; one DVD; two exhibition catalogs; a book of photographs; and a book by a professor emerita, The Sociology of Gender: A Brief Introduction by Professor Emerita Laura Kramer.
