The Mathematics Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification program is designed for bachelor’s degree holders who want to become certified mathematics teachers in New Jersey. This program provides the content knowledge and professional education coursework required to teach mathematics at the middle or secondary school level.
You’ll complete a coherent sequence of mathematics courses covering algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and discrete mathematics. In addition, you’ll take teacher preparation courses that focus on instructional strategies, assessment, and classroom management for teaching mathematics. Fieldwork and supervised student teaching provide practical experience in real classrooms.
Upon successful completion, you’ll be recommended to the New Jersey Department of Education for a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), enabling you to seek employment as a mathematics teacher. After completing the state’s provisional teaching year, you’ll be eligible for a standard teaching certificate. See the curriculum.
