MSU's Llanos Wins NCAA Indoor Track Title

Red Hawk Coach Bennie Benson Named National Coach of the Year

Sophomore sprinter Enrique Llanos captured the men's 55 meter hurdles to help the Montclair State men's team to a third place finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Ohio Northern University on Saturday evening.

The MSU men's team finished with 29 points behind champion Wisconsin-LaCrosse and second-place Lincoln University. It is the highest finish at the Indoor Championships for Montclair State since the meet was first held in 1985. Montclair's previous best was two fourth place showings in 1992 and 1993. On the womens side, MSU placed 8th, its best placing at the NCAA's since 1992 when the Red Hawks finished fifth.

Also for Montclair State, the U.S. Track Coaches Association named head coach Bennie Bension the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year. Benson, now in his seventh season, was also named Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, and has produced 22 All-Americans during his tenure, including 13 in the indoor season.
