Overview
The Department of Nutrition and Food Studies offers the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Pre-Dietetics Certificate Program which is approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). It involves completion of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), which prepares students for careers in nutrition and dietetics. Upon successful completion of the certificate program, students will receive the ACEND Verification Statement that allows them to apply for Dietetic Internships. Students who do not already have a Master’s degree are recommended to enroll in the Pre-Dietetics Certificate Program and the Master’s in Nutrition and Food Science Program simultaneously.
Individuals with a Bachelor of Arts or Science in any field may apply directly into the Pre-Dietetics Certificate Program. Prospective students submit their applications to the Graduate School. There are no prerequisites for this program regardless of a student’s previous field of study. Materials needed for application: Transcripts from every college and university attended; Personal statement. A minimum 3.2 overall GPA is required for applications. GRE is not required for the certificate program. Once enrolled in the Pre-Dietetics Certificate Program, students must maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA, must demonstrate attainment of every dietetics core knowledge requirement (KRDN) throughout the program, and must complete each course with a grade of “C” or above to receive the Verification Statement.
As of Spring 2025, we are no long accepting applications for the AND Certificate Program. Effective Fall 2025, the Pre-Dietetics Certificate will replace the AND Certificate. Please note that the Pre-Dietetics Certificate program is not accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), and does not offer an ACEND Verification Statement.
