Communicable Disease Policy

Students who have an active communicable disease will not be permitted to participate in field experience or have contact with athletes (patients) in the Athletic Training facilities on campus or at affiliated sites. When a student demonstrates symptoms consistent with a communicable disease it is his/her responsibility to notify the Program Director (PD) and Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC) immediately. When a student demonstrates symptoms consistent with a communicable disease he/she must immediately discontinue any activities that require contact with and treatment of patients. The student must also consult with the CEC to determine the modifications to laboratory and/or learning experiences in the clinical setting required by the condition.

The student will be allowed to return to regular clinical education/field experience responsibilities upon submitting written notice from a primary healthcare provider stating that the student is no longer communicable. Necessary arrangements for completion of academic requirements consistent with the restrictions of the condition will be made when possible.
