The University Health Center will continue offering free HPV Vaccine by appointment until October 14, 2012 through a joint initiative with the Montclair Health Department. Our final walk-in HPV clinic will be held on October 10, 2012 at UHC from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
Take advantage of this money saving opportunity to protect your future health by beginning the vaccination process or continuing with the series if the timing is right.
Through federal funding and a joint initiative with the Montclair Health Department, free vaccination will be provided to all students or staff that fall into the following categories:
- · Males and females ages 26 and under who have never been vaccinated against HPV.
- · Males and females ages 26 and under who have begun the vaccination process and need to continue or complete the series of 3 injections
We encourage these individuals to take advantage of the opportunity to protect themselves against the most common type of sexually transmitted infection, genital human papillomavirus and the types of HPV that can cause cervical cancer, genital warts, and other related diseases.
The vaccine, called Gardasil, is a series of three injections given over a six month period. The typical cost of each injection is between $140 and $230 and many health insurance companies do not pay for the vaccine. The University Health Center must charge for the Gardasil vaccine when given at our office since our stock is not included in the federal funding purchases used at the clinic. Thus, the clinic is a great opportunity to reduce the cost of protecting against the most common sexually transmitted infection.
If you have never received any of the injections, come to the clinic and get the first dose free. If you have started the series, bring documentation of your previous doses to the clinic and we will determine whether you can receive the next dose. If so, it will be free!
