Program for the Day
"We are spending the day on the outskirts of Jockey Hollow where in 1779-80, the Continental Army experienced the coldest winter ever recorded. They survived this and major challenges." Peter Macaluso

Hotel, Route 124 (Madison Avenue), Convent Station, NJ. Easily accessible from Route 287 with lots of parking. See http://www.rodssteak.com/directions.html for directions. Note: The
entire day’s program will be held on the second floor of the restaurant and there is no elevator.

3:00 p.m. Our location for this meeting is fitting for today’s presentation by one of our colleagues:
Peter Macaluso, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of History
Topic: “The Miracle of Our Nation’s Birth.” (An Illustrated Talk)
On March 4, 1783 in Princeton, NJ, George Washington who often spoke of “the providential hand of God” and of a “caring of God,” said our nation’s independence from Great Britain,
the mightiest empire on earth, “for the space of eight long years was little short of a miracle.” Through this PowerPoint presentation, we examine why the Revolutionary War and the Peace
Treaty were “miracles” and why is the United States a unique and singular achievement?
4:00 p.m. (OPTIONAL) Stay and enjoy a delectable three-course early evening Prix Fixe Dinner at Rod’s! Cost $32 per person—includes gratuity and state tax.
Zagat Survey Restaurant Guide says: “Excellent eating experience, this ‘classy’Convent Station ‘landmark’ in the Madison Hotel ‘has been around long enough to
know what people want,’ people still seem to want ‘great steaks,’ ‘fresh seafood’ and other ‘quality’ fare offered in a ‘beautiful’ ‘Victorian’ accented, club like setting.”
