Montclair State University President Dr. Susan A. Cole has been named New Jersey's 2006 Leader in Education by Garden State Woman magazine.  

The magazine will present the award at a January 26 luncheon at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park.  

Dr. Cole said she was proud to accept the award on behalf of a university that has been preparing young women - and men - to be leaders for the past 100 years.

"From our start as a teachers college a century ago to the comprehensive university we are today, Montclair State has prepared young women and men to make a difference in their communities, our state and the nation," Dr. Cole said. "I'm proud to accept this award on behalf of a University that remains committed to preparing tomorrow's leaders and helping New Jersey meet the challenges of a changing world."

Dr. Cole became Montclair State University's first woman president in 1998 and has led the University through a dynamic era characterized by dramatic growth and increasing recognition for academic excellence.
