Montclair Times on Cryptic's fantastical, sensual staging of Virginia Woolf's ORLANDO

“Peak Performances at the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University presents a theatrical adaptation from Scotland's Cryptic theater company, using the Darryl Pinckney adaption used by Robert Wilson in 1989… Artistic Director Cathie Boyd, who hails from Belfast, told The Montclair Times, 'I've always wanted to stage 'Orlando.' … Staging Woolf is 'a bit like working on James Joyce. I find something new each time. Woolf writes, 'The birds say follow us to the rim of the world, and there drink forgetfulness.' Her language is absolutely extraordinary,' said Boyd. 'Personally, for me, it's that journey that lets your mind go on.' "

“Orlando's escape to Constantinople will be dramatized through the use of Point Cloud Data Imaging that creates 3D buildings onstage…To add layers of sensuality to the performance, Cryptic added original music by Craig Armstrong, who composed the score for Baz Lurhmann's film 'The Great Gatsby.' ”
