Afternoon program includes works by Mozart, Ligeti and Dvorak

The Shanghai Quartet performs in the Alexander Kasser Theater on Sunday, September 16 at 3pm with an afternoon of music that features works by renowned composers Mozart, Ligeti and Dvorak. Tickets for this performance are $15.

The Shanghai Quartet has earned its reputation as one of the world’s most outstanding string quartets by performing exceptional repertoire in the world’s leading music halls. Currently in residence at MSU, this premiere ensemble was formed in Shanghai nearly 25 years ago and is known for passionate musicality, astounding technique and multicultural innovations. The program for this performance includes Mozart’s Quartet in F Major K.590, Quartet no. 1 “Metamorphoses Nocturnes” by Ligeti, and Dvorak’s Quartet in A Flat op.105. The quartet will return to the Alexander Kasser Theater on April 6th with an all Brahms program.

“The self-effacing beauty of the sound was memorable but what was rarer was the alliance of gorgeous tone with an unwavering unanimity of expressive intent. It resulted in a musical conversation of stunning authenticity and presence.” - The Washington Post
