Juniors A.J. Bachman (Montville, NJ / Mountain Lakes) and Kevin Dyer (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) each scored twice as the Red Hawks registered 62 shots in the game, improving to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference.
Junior attack Sean Maxwell ( West Babylon, NY / West Babylon) scored three goals and goalkeeper Teddy Leone ( East Meadow, NY / East Meadow) made 23 saves for Farmingdale, which fell to 2-7 overall, 0-2 in the Skyline.
Montclair State won the opening faceoff and got off eight shots in the first two-plus minutes before finally breaking through on the ninth as Mike Corsetto ( Kinnelon, NJ / Kinnelon) found Taylor Bonner ( Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge) for the first goal of the game at the 3:08 mark. That sparked a seven-goal run by MSU as Mario Passafiume (Boonton, NJ / Mountain Lakes) collected a goal 34 seconds later and Klimchak tallied twice, including a man-up goal with 5:09 to play, as Montclair led 4-0 after the first period.
The lead grew to 5-0 early in the second period as Dyer scored unassisted 4:16 in and John Schiavone (Montclair, NJ / Montclair) tallied on the man-advantage to make the score 6-0. Jonathan Lopez ( Nutley, NJ / Nutley) capped MSU’s run with an unassisted marker with 6:42 to go. Maxwell registered twice in the final 4:10 of the half as Farmingdale trailed 7-2 at the break.
In the second half, MSU blew the game open outscoring the Rams 6-0 while also holding Farmingdale with out a shot (17-0). Klimchak recorded the hat trick 1:32 in and Bachman scored twice to extend the lead to 10-2. Tyler Meixner (Hamburg, NJ /Vernon) scored with 8:38 left in the period and Matthew DePaolera (Kinnelon, NJ / Kinnelon) got a goal just over minute later before Dyer’s second closed out the third with Montclair State holding a 13-2 advantage.
Montclair State goalkeeper Thomas Bowers (Hamburg, NJ / Pope John XXIII) made three saves in the first three periods before giving way to Andrew Rosado (Elmwood Park, NJ / St. Joseph’s (Montvale)), who made two stops while Joseph DiGangi (Belle Meade, NJ / Montgomery) made one. Sophomore defender Patrick Ferry ( Clifton, NJ / Clifton) registered two ground balls and five caused turnovers while Marc Guido ( North Caldwell, NJ / West Essex) was 7-of-10 on faceoffs for MSU.Leone finished with six ground balls for the Rams while Bryan Schmerler ( Bellmore, NY / Mepham) had three caused turnovers.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 as the Red Hawks host New York Maritime at Sprague Field in Skyline matchup beginning at 7:00 pm.
