Women's Lacrosse Stopped by No. 3 TCNJ

Montclair, NJ (4/22/08) – Freshman Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) ,senior Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) each had three goals as third-ranked The College of New Jersey remained perfect on the road this season as the Lions topped Montclair State, 15-5 at Sprague Field on Tuesday evening.

Diane Haddeland ( Mahopac, NY / Mahopac) added two goals for the Lions, who improved to 12-1 overall this season and 6-0 away from home.

Senior midfielder Bethany Blaine ( Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) had three goals for the Red Hawks, who fell to 6-7 on the season.

TCNJ jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game as Toni-Ann Cavallo ( Cedar Grove, NJ / West Essex) scored 3:57 into the game and Mitchell and Reuther each collected the first of their three goals as the Lions went up 3-0 with 21:58 to play. Montclair State would battle back as Blaine fed Morgan MacPhee ( Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) and then scored her first with 17:42 remaining as the Red Hawks cut the deficit to 3-2.

Doane netted her 51 st and 52 nd goals midway through the period to push the lead to 5-2 but Jamie Hudacko ( Montville, NJ / Montville) countered for Montclair State with 10:35 to pulling the Red Hawks within two. But Alison Jaeger ( Hampton, NJ / Hamilton North) scored with 6:32 left and again with six seconds to play before halftime, igniting a seven-goal run by the Lions that would bridge the periods.

Leading 8-3 at the break, Haddeland scored at 2:30 of the second and Mitchell twice 10 minutes apart as the Lions led 11-3. Reuther finished off the run with her second goal as TCNJ held a 12-3 advantage with 10:23 remaining in the half.

Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Gregory ( Winslow, NJ/ Eastern) made five saves for the Lions while MSU keeper Talia Katz (Lower Merion, PA / Lower Merion) had five of her own for Montclair State.

Montclair State is now off until Monday, April 28 as the Red Hawks close out their league and regular season against Mt. St. Vincent at Sprague Field in a 7:00 pm matchup.
