Soccer Teams Enjoy Trip to Spain

Montclair,NJ - (8/20/08) - The Montclair State University men’s and women’s soccer team arrived back from their pre-season training in Spain. The men’s team kicked off their competition against Malaga CF Honor on Thursday, August 7 under extreme heat conditions. Malaga CF Honor put away the first goal with a beautiful header that found its way into the back of the net. MSU would later answer with a goal off a free kick outside the 18 yard box. The half ended 1-1. Start of the second half, MSU looked more relaxed and confident while possessing the ball allowing them to go up 2-1. The game would end MSU 2, Malaga CF Honor 1. On Friday, August 8, MSU women’s team took on Torrejon. The score was even for most of the game at 3-3 but Torrejon put away two late goals to defeat MSU 5-3.

On Saturday, August 9, MSU men’s soccer took on Malaga CF Liga Nacional. Overall the game saw great play from both teams; defined ball control, physical play, and great finishing. The game would end with a 2-2 tie. The last game was played Monday, August 11 as the women played Atletico Malaga, a physical but exciting game. Both teams saw their chances but it was Atletico that came out with the only goal of the game defeating MSU 1-0.
