Montclair, NJ(11/1/08) – Freshman Symone Seldon (Trenton, NJ / Ewing) scored early and sophomore Christyn Scillieri (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley) added a goal late as fourth-seeded Montclair State
blanked No. 5 seed Kean University, 2-0 in the opening round of the
2008 New Jersey AthleticConference Women’s Soccer Tournament at Sprague
Field on Saturday evening.
Junior goalkeeper Leah Tepperman (North Andover, MA / North Andover)
made nine saves in recording her second straight shutout as the Red
Hawks (10-9-1) advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, November 5. Montclair will face top-seeded Richard Stockton at 7:00 pm in Pomona.

a ball through from midfield where Seldon beat one defender before
gaining control and lifting a shot past Russo at the 5:42 mark. It was
Seldon’ssecond goal of the year.
Each team would get their fair share of scoring chances inthe first half. Moments after the Seldon goal, Ashley DiRocco (Cranford,NJ / Cranford) was stopped by Tepperman and Russo made a save on Christina DeMartinis’ (Kinnelon, NJ/ Kinnelon) shot at 15:54. Tepperman andRusso would each make three more saves in the final 30 minutes as Montclair State took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Kean would get one more chance three minutes after the Montclair goal, but Danielle Esposito’s (Holmdel, NJ/ Holmdel) shot at 80:12 clanked off the top of the crossbar.
The Red Hawks held the edge in shots 18-14 with Kean gettingthe advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
