MSU's Aliakseyenka National Wrestling Champion

Montclair State's Eduard Aliakseyenka (Belarus) captured the 174-pound weight class as he defeated top seed and 2000 champion Nick Slack of Augsburg, 12-8 in the championship match. Aliakseyenka, the No. 2 seed, became the 28th individual national champion for the Red Hawk program. He finished 22-1 on the season. MSU has produced the most individual national champions in Division III history.

The Montclair State wrestling team finished in ninth place as the 2002 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships came to a close at the First Union Arena on Saturday evening. The Red Hawks totaled 31.5 points and finished tied with Oswego State. Augsburg College won its third consecutive national championship. It was the 16th time in the history of the tournament that MSU has placed in the Top 10.
