NJ Governor McGreevey & Emmy Winner Charlie Rose to be Honored by MSU

New Jersey's dynamic new governor, James E. McGreevey, and Emmy-award winning journalist Charlie Rose will be awarded honorary doctoral degrees at Montclair State University commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 24.

McGreevey, who will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, was cited by the University's Board of Trustees for his "commitment to education (which) has been demonstrated in various ways including the creation of an Early Literacy Task Force, which will be charged with identifying best practices and research-based programs that can be incorporated into a statewide plan, and the establishment of an Education Cabinet of business and educational leaders, charged with improving communication and coordination at all levels of our education system...."

Rose, who will receive a Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, was cited by the University's Board of Trustees as "the host of a compelling public television program that regularly challenges viewers with the observations and keen analyses of the nation's foremost thinkers....Mr. Rose's interviewing style has garnered widespread praise and he has won several awards -- including the coveted Emmy Award, the George Peabody Broadcasting Award, the Cable ACE Award, the Futrell Award, and the World Citizen of the Year 2000 Award from the Charlotte World Affairs Council...."
