Men's Soccer Battles Colorado College to Scoreless Draw

Colorado Springs, CO (9/13/09) - Senior goalkeeper Teddy Ritter (Belford, NJ / Middletown North) made eight saves to keep Colorado College off the board, however No. 7 Montclair State was unable to find the back of the net itself as the two teams played to a scoreless draw on on Sunday.

The tie snapped MSU's (4-0-1) regular-season winning streak at 22, however its unbeaten streak continues now at 23 contests. Montclair last played a scoreless draw against Swarthmore in September 2007.
The Montclair State defense was dominant in the first half as it held Colorado College without a shot and did not give up one until 14:32 into the second half. MSU would get eight of its own but the Red Hawks could not get one past senior goalkeeper Brian Engle, who made a career-high nine saves in the contest.

In the second half, MSU would get its best opportunity when it was awarded a penalty kick. However Joseph Cullen’s (Clementon, NJ / Highland) attempt went over the crossbar and the game remained scoreless.

Montclair would get another break with just under three minutes remaining in the first overtime as CC’s David Van Sicklen was given a red card. Playing with the man advantage, MSU immediately got a chance to win the game, but Engle denied Kevin Brown’s (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley) attempt.

Ritter and Engle would each made a save in the second overtime as MSU outshot the Tigers, 3-2.

The Red Hawks are back in action at MSU Soccer Park on Tuesday, September 15 as they host College of Staten Island at 3:30 pm.
