Field Hockey Back on Winning Track; Blanks Misericordia, 5-0

Dallas, PA (9/29/09) - Senior forward Justine DiPaolo (Lanoka Harbor, NJ / Lacey) and junior Diana Colombo (Westampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) each posted a goal and assist as Montclair State got back on the winning track with a 5-0 victory over Misericordia University on Tuesday evening.

Seniors Melissa Buttray (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) and Annalisa Valerio (Norristown, PA / Kendrick Kennedy) each tallied a goal as the Red Hawks improved to 6-3 on the season.

Buttray put Montclair State on the board 16:19 into the game with her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Colombo. DiPaolo would extend that lead to 2-0 just under three minutes later as she collected an unassisted tally. Valerio made it a three-goal lead before halftime as she knocked in her first of the year.

The would be all Montclair State would need as the Red Hawks held the Cougars without a shot over the first 35 minutes and only two in the entire game. MSU would record 12 shots while also posting the same margin in penalty corners.

Colombo added her second goal of the season 3:34 into the secon period as she banged in a pass from DiPaolo. Kelly Montgomery (Ocean, NJ / Ocean Township) rounded out the Montclair State scoring with her second of the season with 6:59 left.

Goalkeepers Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) and Noell Gomez (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) each recorded a scoreless half as Montclair oisted its fourth shuout of the season.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Friday, October 2 as they host ninth-ranked The College of New Jersey in an NJAC matchup at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm.
