Junior defender Stefani Elefther (Rivervale, NJ / Pascack Valley) had an assist as Montclair State improved to 6-3-1 overall this season while squaring its NJAC mark at 2-2-1.
Junior midfielder Maura Gillane (Blackwood, NJ / Highland Regional) had a goal for Rutgers-Camden, which fell for the fourth time in its last five outings. The Scarlet Raptors are now 4-8-1 overall, 0-4-1 in conference play.
Sisti recorded her fourth career hat trick as she put Montclair State on the board at the 25:48 mark of the contest. Going after a loose ball inside the box, Sisti was tripped up by Scarlet Raptor keeper Elizabeth Malony (Haddonfield, NJ / Haddonfield Memorial). MSU was awarded a penalty kick on the play and Sisti made it count as she drilled a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 Montclair State lead.
But Rutgers-Camden quickly tied the match just over five minutes later. Jessica Leoni (Blackwood, NJ / Highland Regional) served a low-lining kick off a corner that got through several defenders and on to the foot of Gillane, who chipped the ball inside the left post for her first of the season as the Scarlet Raptors knotted the contest at 1-1.
In the second half, Montclair would retake the lead as Elefther sent through a ball down the right side. Sisti picked up the pass and moved in several more yards before letting go of a shot the snuck inside the far left post for her second of the game as Montclair led 2-1 in the 58th minute. Less than 30 seconds later, Sisti got the hat trick as she converted a second penalty kick as Rutgers-Camden was called for a handball inside the box.
The Scarlet Raptors had a chance to cut the deficit back to a goal at the 61:17 mark as Heather Thom (National Park, NJ / Gateway Regional) fired a direct kick that MSU’s Leah Tepperman (North Andover, MA / North Andover) knocked away. The ball bounced out toward the left side to Kathleen Malony (Haddonfield, NJ / Haddonfield Memorial), however her shot went over the crossbar.
Tepperman and Elizabeth Malony each had four saves as the tied put up eight shots apiece in the contest. Montclair State held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Montclair State goes right back to work on Sunday, October 4 as the Red Hawks host St. Joseph’s (LI) in an 11:00 am matchup at Sprague Field. Rutgers-Camden is on the road again on Tuesday, October 6 as they face Arcadia University at 4:00 pm.
