Murphy Selected NJAC Field Hockey Defensive POTW For Second Time

Montclair, NJ (11/9/09) – Junior Jessica Murphy (West Long Branch, NJ / Shore Regional) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week on Monday.

Murphy earns NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Red Hawks conclude their regular season with a 5-0 NJAC road win at Richard Stockton. She anchored a MSU defense which helped hold the Ospreys to just three shots in the contest. She also netted a goal in the second half which ignited a four-goal run for the Red Hawks.

Montclair State was selected as the second seed in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy in a first round game on November 11.

Murphy is part of a Red Hawk defense which currently leads the NJAC in team goals against average (1.10).
