The MSU totaled 507 points and claimed two event titles while the women tallied 239 points.
The men’s 200 freestyle relay team of Blaise Lacca (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township), Michael Smith (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East), Zak Westerberg (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) and Thomas Long (Morristown, NJ / Morristown)
got things off to a good start for MSU as they took first place with a
time of 1:29.26. The quartet also finished second in the 400 freestyle
relay with a time of 3:21.51 and third in the 800 freestyle relay
(7:52.69).
Sean Chambrovich (Allenhurst, NJ / Red Bank Regional) won the 200 backstroke as he clocked in at 2:08.95 with teammate Jason Jennings (Cedar Run, NJ / Southern Regional)
coming in third (2:14.02). Chambrovich also finished fourth in the 200
individual medley (2:12.50) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.85).
Chambrovich then teamed with Lacca, Sean French (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) and Nikolas Lumkong (Andover, NJ / Pope John XXIII)
for a second-place finish in in the 200 medley relay (1:43.16). Lumkong
added a pair of third-place showings in the 200 butterfly (2:10.53) and
200 individual medley (2:06.56). He was also fifth in the 50 freestyle
(:23.23).
Westerberg placed third in the 50 freestyle
(23.17) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:53.57) while Smith was third
in the 200 freestyle (1:53.46) and sixth in the 500 freestyle
(5:15.71). Matt Hyde (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) was fifth in the 500 free (5:14.78) and Lacca the same in the 100 freestyle (50.48). Michael Adams (Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII) was fifth in both the 200 and 400 individual medley with times of 2:12.73 and 4:46.70, respectively.
On the women’s side, Laura Spadoni (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area)
finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.61) and sixth in the 200
breaststroke (2:42.77) while also recording a seventh-place showing in
the 200 individual medley (2:22.34). Freshman Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge)
placed third in the 100 free (57.26) and fifth in the 50 freestyle
(26.39). She was also eighth in the 100 butterfly with a time of
1:04.66.
Laura Flynn (Andover, NJ / Lenape Valley) was eighth in the 200 butterfly (2:23.67) with junior Galina Loutchouk (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) finishing seventh in the both the 400 individual medley (5:04.68) and 1650 freestyle (19:30.17).
The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, December 5 when they host
Drew University in a dual meet at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool
beginning at 1:00 pm. Montclair will also have divers competing at the
ECAC Championships that same day.
