Montclair, NJ (11/24/09) – Senior midfielder Melissa Buttray (Boonton, NJ / Boonton)
was named to the 2009 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches
Association (NFHCA) Division III All-America Team released on Tuesday.
Buttray was named to Third Team.
Buttray, who was
named First-Team NFHCA South Atlantic All-Region becomes the seventh
player in Montclair State field hockey history to be named All-America.
Buttray played an integral role in helping the Red Hawks to their third
ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship in the last four seasons. MSU finished
the year at 15-6, the sixth time in program history that the Red Hawks
captured that number of victories in one campaign.
Buttray earned her second straight All-Region honor this year as she was selected Second Team in 2008. The three-time All-NJAC selection, including First Team this season, she appeared and started all 21 games for the Red Hawks finishing fourth on the team in scoring. Buttray tallied seven goals and four assists for 18 points and finished the year ranked 12th in the NJAC in points scored. Selected as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week for September 14, Buttray had two game-winning goals this season and collected a pair of scores in MSU's 8-0 win against Gwynedd-Mercy College in the opening round of the ECAC Tournament.
