Laura Lakusta, Assistant Professor in Psychology, is the lead author for a paper that has been accepted into the Proceedings for the National Academy of Science (PNAS).   "Impaired Geometric Reorientation Caused by Genetic Defect" explores navigation abilities (specifically, reorientation after disorientation) in individuals who have the genetic disorder, Williams syndrome, thus for the first time linking genes to our ability to navigate the world.   The study provides insight into the link between how genes work and how brains develop and become specialized, and into the causes of very basic cognitive system malfunctioning.  The study was underwritten by a grant from the National Institutes of Health.
