Asimou earns NJAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after traveling to Newark, DE to compete at the Thomson Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware. He placed second in a field of 21 competitors in the shot put with a NCAA provisional mark of 16.18 meters. He also placed fourth in a field of 13 competitors in the weight throw with a toss of 14.41 meters.
The performances by Asimou helped the Red Hawks secure a seventh place finish in the 13-team meet.
It is the third straight meet that Asimou has posted an NCAA qualifying
mark. Last week he became and automatic qualifier for next month's NCAA
Division III Championships as he placed second and broke his own
school-record at the Great Dane Classic held at The Armory. Asimou
posted a throw of 16.81 meters helping MSU finish tops of among all
Division III entries at 14th place in the field of 27 teams.
The throw is currently the best in Division III this season.
