Women's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straightl Tops Kean, 15-4

Montclair, NJ (4/6/10) – Senior midfielder Morgan MacPhee (Toms River, NJ / Toms River South) scored five goals as Montclair State got contributions from seven different players as the Red Hawks rolled to their fifth straight win, 15-4 over Kean University in a Skyline / New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup at Sprague Field on Tuesday evening.

Freshman attack Kailee Beal (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) scored three goals while Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) and Kayla Henderson (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) each added two as the Red Hawks improved to 6-3 overall while remaining unbeaten in both the Skyline and NJAC at 4-0 and 3-0, respectively.

Junior midfielder Erica Kelly (West Deptford, NJ / West Deptford) tallied a pair of goals for the Cougars, who had their two-game winning streak halted. Kean is now 4-6 overall, 2-2 in the Skyline and 1-2 in the NJAC.

Montclair State recorded the first seven goals of the game, jumping out to a 1-0 lead 1:18 into the contest as Lauren Adams (Jackson, NJ / Jackson) found MacPhee in front for the first score of the game. The same combo worked again for the second goal just over five minutes later and as free-position goal by Jamie Hudacko (Montville, NJ / Montville) with 18:41 left gave the Red Hawks a 3-0 advantage. 

Henderson and Beal scored 35 seconds apart to push the lead to five and the combined on a pair of goals 36 seconds after each other with 14 minutes left as Montclair led 7-0.

Kelly put Kean on the board scoring a free-position goal with 7:46 to go, however Meghan Spitzer (Mount Olive, NJ / Mount Olive) scored less than a minute later and Delfini added her second with 3:24 remaining as the Red Hawks led 9-1 at the break.

Adams finished with three assists and Jess Curran (Yorktown Heights, NJ / Lakeland) two as Montclair State outshot the Cougars 34-10. Henderson finished with five draws while Delfini and Ashley Krzysik (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) forced three turnovers apiece. Goalkeeper Tiffani Henderson (Landing, NJ / Roxbury) stopped three shot in 48 minutes before giving way to Tracy Manella (Haworth, NJ / NV – Demarest).

Freshman goalkeeper Jules Keeley (Ocean Township, NJ / Ocean Township) made 10 saves for Kean as she played 40 minutes. Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, NJ / West Deptford) had three saves in 20 minutes of work. Joelle Vitale (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) had three caused turnovers for the Cougars.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, April 10 in conference action. Montclair State heads to Throggs Neck, NY to face New York Maritime in a 1:00 pm Skyline contest. Kean is on the road at the same time in Glassboro as it faces Rowan University.
