Ithaca, NY (5/16/10) -The Montclair State baseball team lost its 2010 season finale on Sunday afternoon as the Red Hawks dropped the second game of a weekend set to Ithaca College, 3-2. The Red Hawks finished the season at 23-19.
Senior Tom Fishback (Penfield/Webster) moved to 8-3 with the win, and allowed just two earned runs over seven innings. Fishback struck out six and allowed just five hits in the win. Senior Dan Nodarse (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford), making his final appearance for MSU took the loss as he fell to 1-3. Sophomore reliever Tucker Healy (Needham/Needham) picked up the save for Ithaca.
Ithaca got two runners on in the bottom of the eighth but could not score them. In the top of the ninth, Healy walked the leadoff batter Mickey McGraw (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) but got two strikeouts and a flyout to end the game and pick up his fourth save of the season.
Ithaca got on the board in the second inning, when freshman Ian Gaule (Columbia/East Greenbuch) was a hit by a pitch and came around to score on a ground ball off the bat of senior T.J. Abone (Rome/Rome Free Academy).
Gaule drove in thaca's second run on a third-inning sacrifice fly that plated junior David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington).
Montclair State would get on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Kevin Miller (Bloomfield, NJ / Bloomfield) singled with one out and that was followed by a base hit from Jay Bionde (Pompton Plains, NJ / Pequannock). Both runners would move up on a wild pitch and McGraw walked to load the bases. Scott Evangelist (Northfield, NJ / Holy Spirit) delivered the run with a fielder's choice.
The Bombers answered right back in its half of the inning taking a 3-1 lead when junior Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) drove in classmate Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.) on a single up the middle.
Montclair State would cut the lead back to a run in the top of the eighth inning. Mike Boggi (Towaco, NJ / Montville) and Andrew Himmelfarb (Nyack, NY / Nyack) reach base with no one out, however Healy came on and retired the next two hitters. Matt Moreno (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) would single to score one run cutting the lead to 3-2 however Healy got a fly out to keep the lead in tact.
Wolf and Ahonen each had two hits in the game, as did senior Jon
