Volleyball Topped by Buffalo State, Baptist Bible at Red Dragon Classic

Cortland, NY (9/4/10) -  Freshman outside hitter Marta Topor (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) collected 17 kills and 15 digs however it wasn’t enough as Montclair State closed out its appearance in the Red Dragon Classic with losses to Buffalo State and Baptist Bible on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Kristen Bronowich (Secaucus, NJ / Secaucus) had 12 kills and 21 digs as the Red Hawks dropped to 0-5 with three-set losses in both contests. MSU fell to Buffalo State 25-11, 25-18 and 25-23 and lost to Baptist Bible 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18. Freshman libero Kaitlyn Irwin (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Against Buffalo State, Topor had seven kills and 10 digs along with a service ace and assist. Bronowich chipped in with five kills and 12 digs. Freshman Megan Cockcroft (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) had six digs and four aces with Irwin posting a team-high 18 digs. Bella Milstein (Edison, NJ / JP Stevens)registered 10 assists.

Bronowich collected seven kills and nine digs in the loss to Baptist Bible. Topor led the way with 10 kills and five digs while Cockcroft contributed three kills, eight assists and three aces. Irwin had 13 digs with Millstein getting nine assists.

The Red Hawks are now off until Friday, September 10 as Montclair hosts the MSU Classic at the Panzer Athletic Center. Montclair State will face Lycoming and PSU-Altoona at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, respectively.
