Montclair State University’s Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First Year Students Receives a Delta Award at the Silver Level

The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First Year College Students has awarded a Delta Award at the Silver level to the Montclair State University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta. The chapter, advised by Jason Pelosi of New Student Experience, was honored by the National Council for its dramatic increase in membership last year. In 2009 – 2010, the Montclair State University chapter initiated 177 new members, a 49% increase from 2008 – 2009 to 2009 – 2010.

According to the National Council, the mission of Alpha Lambda Delta is to “encourage superior academic achievement...to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society."

First-year students at Montclair State University are eligible to join Alpha Lambda Delta by earning a 3.5 grade point average after their first semester. The campus chapter has been in existence since 2004 and now has a full membership of approximately 470 current students. Led by an active Executive Board of sophomores, juniors, and seniors, Alpha Lambda Delta coordinates programs and events that support the national organization’s mission at Montclair State University. The membership is also eligible to apply for undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, and other awards. In fact in 2009, Heather Fackelman, a Montclair State chapter member, received a Trow Scholarship from National Alpha Lambda Delta.
