Montclair, NJ (9/20/10) - Junior men's soccer midfielder Mike Pytlar (Califon, NJ / West Morris) and sophomore volleyball outside hitter Alyssa Batiste (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) have been named MSU Athletes of the Week.
Pytlar had a pair of goals as the four-time defending NJAC champion Red Hawks opened defense of their league title with a 5-0 victory over Rowan in their only contest of the week. He gave Montclair a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute with his first goal of the season and added his second 38 seconds into the second half as MSU built a 4-0 advantage. Pytlar is currently third on the team in scoring with five points and tied for third in goals. For his career, Pytlar currently has seven goals and four assists for 18 points.
Batiste helped the volleyball team to a pair of wins last week with her fine all-around play. The sophomore collected 38 kills, 65 assists, five service aces, 30 digs and five total blocks in five matches. Among Batiste’s highlights last week was a 10-kill, 15-assist performance along with a pair of aces, eight digs and three total blocks as MSU opened up NJAC play with a four-set win over Kean. She added a career-best 15 kills along with 26 assists and seven digs as the Red Hawks rallied from two sets down for a 3-2 victory against Centenary at the Kean Invitational.
