Irwin, Topor Earn NJAC Volleyball Weekly Honors

Montclair, NJ (10/19/10) – Freshmen Kaitlin Irwin (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) and Marta Topor (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) each collected honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference on Tuesday as they were named Defensive and Rookie of the Week.

Irwin earns NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after averaging 6.70 digs per set in three matches played for the Red Hawks. She opened the week with 23 digs in MSU’s third NJAC victory of the season, a 3-0 win over NJCU. Two days later, she collected 13 digs in a 3-0 defeat to Muhlenberg, before wrapping up the week with 31 digs in a 3-1 loss to Johns Hopkins.

Irwin, who has produced 25 or more digs in a match four times during her rookie season, currently leads the NJAC in digs with an average of 5.90 per set.

Topor becomes the second different Red Hawk to earn NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after averaging 3.10 kills and 3.00 digs per set in the three matches. She opened the week with a double-double 11 kills and 15 digs in the 3-0 win over NJCU. She then posted seven kills and six digs in a 3-0 defeat to Muhlenberg, before wrapping up the week with 13 kills and nine digs in a 3-1 loss to Johns Hopkins.

Topor currently ranks 12th in the NJAC in kills with an average of 2.31 per set.
