Irwin Named NJAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for Third Straight Week

Montclair, NJ (10/26/10) – Freshmen Kaitlin Irwin (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) earned her third straight Defensive Player of the Week honor from the New Jersey Athletic Conference on Tuesday. The award is the fifth overall for Irwin, who was selected Rookie of the Week on September 14 and 28th.

Irwin earns NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after averaging 7.58 digs per set during three matches played for MSU. She first tallied 38 digs and three kills in a 3-1 NJAC defeat to William Paterson. She then produced 27 digs in a 3-1 loss to Baruch, before wrapping up the week with 26 digs in a 3-1 defeat to FDU-Florham. Irwin, who has tallied 30 or more digs in a match four times during her rookie season, currently leads the NJAC in digs with an average of 6.10 per set.
