Murphy Named NJAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Year; Red Hawks Place Three on All-Conference Squad

Montclair, NJ (11/10/10) – Senior Jessica Murphy (West Long Branch, NJ / Shore Regional) was named the Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the First Team along with Deana Hagel (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex)and Diana Colombo (Westampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) as the New Jersey Athletic Conference released its All-Conference Team on Wednesday.

Murphy and Hagel each collected their second consecutive First-Team honor while Colombo earned her first All-Conference accolade.

Murphy anchored a Red Hawk defense that ranked third against NJAC competition in goals allowed per game (2.00). A Week 4 NJAC Defensive Player of the Week selection, she currently ranks 21st in the conference in points per game (0.71). In 18 games, Murphy finished fourth on the team in scoring as she registered 14 points on six goals and two assists. Two of Murhpy's goals game in the Red Hawks' 2-1 overtime win at then-No. 10 Trinity College (CT). She tied the game in the closing minutes before netting the game-winner in the extra session.

Hagel ranked as one of the league's top scorers as she finished in double digits in both goals and assists with 10 each for 30 points. Sh ranks third in league in points and was also third in assists and fifth in goals scored. Hagel, the second all-time leading scorer at MSU (89 points), had three games in which she scored multiple goals and had the game-winning goal in MSU's 1-0 win against Susquehanna on September 18. Hagel was also recently named to the NFHCA Division III Senior All-Star Game.

Colombo posted four goals and two assists for 10 points. She scored the game-winning goals in back-to-back contests against Rensselaer (September 5) and Muhlenberg (September 11) in Montclair wins and recorded two assists in the Red Hawks' 4-2 win at Ramapo on October 5.
