Montclair, NJ (2/14/11) – Freshman Krystal Ellis (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week on Monday. Ellis helped Montclair State place seventh overall in the 21-team CTC Championship on Saturday.
Ellis earns NJAC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors after traveling to Middletown, CT to compete at he CTC Championships hosted by Wesleyan University. She placed first in a field of 10 competitors in the pentathlon with a NCAA provisional qualifying score of 3,289 points, the third-highest pentathlon score posted in NCAA Division III this season.
Ellis, who was just 111 points from automatic qualification, won both jumping events as she took the top spot in the high jump at 1.60 meters and long jump at 5.22 meters (17-feet, 1.5-inches), both personal bests. She would earn second in the 800 meters with another personal best (2:32.51) and was third in the shot put (9.37 meters) and fourth in the 55 hurdles (8.95 seconds).
