Montagna Named NJAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

Montclair, NJ (2/21/11) – Guard Michelle Montagna (New Providence, NJ / New Providence) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Montagna becomes the second different Red Hawk to earn NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after averaging 10.7 points and 4.7 assists per game in three NJAC contests during the week. She opened the week with eight points, three assists, and three steals in a 67-31 road win at NJCU. Two nights later, she helped MSU secure a NJAC Tournament berth with eight points, six assists, and four rebounds in a 77-53 regular season finale victory over NJCU. Three days later in the first postseason game of her collegiate career, she tallied 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three-point 
range, while adding five assists and two steals in the Red Hawks’ opening round NJAC Tournament road win at Richard Stockton. With the victory, MSU will travel to face arch rival William Paterson in the NJAC semifinals on February 23. 

Montagna currently ranks seventh in the NJAC in assists with an average of 3.0 per game.
