Montclair, NJ (3/16/11) - Junior forward Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) earned another honor on Wednesday as he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Atlantic Region All-District Second Team. August becomes the 12th player in program history to earn All-District honors from the NABC and the first since Gian Paul Gonzalez in 2006.
A First-Team All-NJAC selection and D3Hoops.com Atlantic All-Region pick, August helped Montclair State to a 20-8 record this season, including a trip to the NJAC Tournament Championship Game, the first by the Red Hawks since the 2002-03 campaign.
August, in his first season with Montclair after transferring from Felician College, led the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 15.8 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game. The 6-7 August shot 57.7 percent from the field and also had 42 assists, 33 steals and 21 blocked shots. A two-time NJAC Player of the Week, August was named to the season-opening Doc Greene Invitational All-Tournament Team at Juniata College and was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament at Rochester Tech in December.
August ranked fourth in the NJAC in scoring, fifth in rebounding and third in field goal percentage. He registered double-digits in scoring in 21 of Montclair's 27 contests this season and topped the 20-point mark 12 times, including a season-high 31 points versus Mount Aloysius in December. The 31 points were the highest scoring game by an MSU player since Gonzalez' school-record 51 points in 2006. August also recorded six double-doubles during the season and had 23 points and nine rebounds in Montclair State's 61-60 win over Richard Stockton in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament on February 20.
