Montclair, NJ (3/21/11) - Freshman third baseman Dana Amato (Hillsdale, NJ / Pascack Valley) was named the NJAC Rookie Player of the Week on Monday. It is the second consecutive week that MSU has captured one of the league's rookie honors as righthander Alex Hill (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) was named the Rookie Pitcher of the Week on March 14.
Amato was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Player of the Week as she batted .529 with a slugging percentage of .706 and on-base average of .619 in seven games for MSU during a 5-3 week at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, FL. Amato was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a double in a 4-1 win versus Carthage College and went 2-for-2 with two doubles and five RBI in a 10-0 victory versus Nazareth. She wrapped up her week going 2-for-3 in 1-0, eight-inning victory versus St. Benedict.
For the week, Amato collected nine hits in 17 at bats and drew four walks in addtion to successfully handling 13 of 14 chances in the field at third base. Amato currently leads the team in batting average (.526), slugging percentage (.737) and RBI (9).
