Mahwah, NJ (4/2/11) – Sophomore Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) and reshman Krystal Ellis(Morristown, NJ / Morristown), who helped the Montclair State women's outdoor track and field team to a fifth-place finish at this past weekend's Roadrunner Invitational, each earned honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference on Monday.
Gearity was selected as the NJAC Track Athlete of the Week while Ellis was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week. It is the second conference weekly award for Ellis this year while Gearity gets her first accolade.
Gearity earned NJAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors after traveling to Mahwah, NJ for Ramapo’s Roadrunner Invitational. Individually, she placed first in a field of 14 competitors in the 400 meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:04.23. She also was a member of both the Red Hawks’ 4x400 and 4x100 meter relays which placed first and fifth respectively with ECAC qualifying times of 4:00.17 and 50.77.
Ellis placed seventh in a field of 22 competitors in the 100 meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 15.79. She also placed 11th in a field of 22 competitors in the 200 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 26.90. In addition to a pair of fifth place showings in both the long jump and the high jump, she competed as a member of the 4x400 meter relay squad.
