Women's Outdoor Track Gets Solid Performances at Army's West Point Open

West Point, NY (4/16/11) – Freshman Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) finished second in the 400 meter hurdles leading three Red Hawks into the Top 10 of the event as Montclair State competed at the West Point Open at the United States Military Academy on Saturday afternoon.

Gearity placed second in the field as she posted a time of 1:05.42. Sophomore Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ / Northern Burlington) was sixth with a time of 1:11.86 followed by freshman Krystal Ellis (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) in seventh at 1:12.21.

Gearity would then run the leadoff leg of the 4x100 relay team that also placed second. Gearity combined with Ashley Powell (Orange, NJ / Marylawn of the Oranges), Antoinetta Altilio (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) and Judline Tumson (Newark, NJ / Arts) for a time of 51.13.

Patterson would finish sixth and Ellis 11th, respectively in 100 meter hurdles. Patterson ran 15.98 seconds while Ellis came in at 17.77. Nicole Presti (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) placed sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:32.65 and Altilio was fifth in the 100 meters (13.85 seconds).  Brianna Myrick (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) was 12th in the 400 meters (1:04.06).

In the field events, Michelle McNulty (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne) finished 11th in the long jump with a best leap of 4.81 meters. Sara Douma (West Milford, NJ / West Milford) placed 10th in the triples jump (10.17 meters) with Altilio coming in 11th at 9.65 meters.

The Red Hawks are scheduled to take part in the Roadrunners Express at Ramapo College in Mahwah on Friday, April 22.
