Torregroza Named NJAC Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week

Montclair, NJ (5/9/11) - Freshman lefthander Jonathan Torregroza (Bound Brook, NJ / Immaculata) earned his third New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Pitcher of the Week selection on Monday.

Torregroza earns NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors after logging 17.1 innings of work during two NJAC Tournament appearances for the Red Hawks. In the first postseason game of his collegiate career, he held eventual champion Kean to just three runs in six innings of work during a 3-1 opening round defeat to the Cougars. Four days later, he logged 11.1 innings of work while surrendering just one earned run during MSU’s 2-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark in 15 innings. Torregroza, who threw 122 pitches - 83 for strikes - in the victory over Newark, currently ranks 22nd in the NJAC in earned run average (2.78).
