New York, NY (9/17/11) – The Montclair State
volleyball team closed out its appearance in the Jay Street Classic as
the Red Hawks split their final two matches on Saturday. MSU (5-9)
topped York College (NY) in straight sets before falling to host
NYU-Polytechnic by the same margin.
Freshman Daniella Salemo (Ramsey, NJ / Ramsey) was
named to the All-Tournament Team as Montclair defeated York 24-9,
25-19 and 25-21. The Red Hawks lost to host NYU-Poly 25-10, 25-9,
25-17.
Salemo had 12 kills, five aces and six digs in the win over York. Alyssa Willis (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) added nine along with five digs with Erika Gerner (Sparta, NJ / Sparta) adding six kills. Lauren Sharp (Mendham, NJ / West Morris-Mendham) had four kills and Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ / Westwood) recorded 31 assists and three aces. Kimberly Butrico (Cresskill, NJ / Cresskill) led Montclair with 12 digs.
Campo, Salemo and Alyssa Batiste (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) had two kills apiece in the loss to NYU-Polytechnic. Campo had six assists with Batiste registering a team-high five digs.
The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 20 as they
face Rowan University at the RiverWinds Community Center in West
Deptford, NJ at 7:00 pm.
