Mahwah, NJ (10/26/11) – Senior senior Kevin Zalewski (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) had a hand in both goals socring once and assisting on the other while classmate Jon Christensen (Medford Lakes, NJ / Shawnee) added a goal as Montclair State closed out its regular season with a 2-1 victory over Ramapo College on Wednesday afternoon.
The victory was Montclair’s second straight and fifth in its last six contests as the Red Hawks also extended their unbeaten streak to six games. MSU moved to 14-2-3 on the year while finishing 5-1-2 in the NJAC claiming the No. 2 seed in the NJAC Tournament.
Montclair will receive a first-round bye when the
tournament begins on October 29 and will host a semifinal matchup at
MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday, November 2 at 2:00 pm against an opponent
to be determined.
Anthony Rogic (Boonton, NJ / Morris Catholic), the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, made 10 saves for Montclair State, which was outshot 20-16 in the contest.
Christensen gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead at the 22:06 mark in the first half with his first goal of the season as he finished off a feed from Zalewski That goal would hold up into the second half when Zalewski netted what turned out to be the game-winning goal, his 10th of the season.
The goal proved to be big when Ramapo’s Todd Kadell scored with 24:49 remaining. It would be as close as the Roadrunners would get as Montclair did not allow a shot the rest of the way.
