digs as Richard Stockton continued its New Jersey Athletic Conference
dominance with a 3-0 victory over Montclair State at the Panzer Athletic
Center on Thursday evening.
Richard Stockton won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-9.
Senior setter Laura Hausman (Bethlehem, PA / Catasaqua) had 20 assists and three kills as the Ospreys (23-8) finished unbeaten in the conference during the regular season for the second straight year at 7-0. Stockton also stretched its winning streak against NJAC opponents to 20 dating back to October 28, 2009 when it lost to MSU in four sets. The winning streak includes four wins in the previous two NJAC Tournaments.
Sophomore Marta Topor (Bogota, NJ / Bogota) had nine kills to pace Montclair State, which fell to 11-6 overall and 3-4 in the NJAC.
Richard Stockton will be the top seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament which begins on Tuesday, November 1. The Ospreys will have a first-round bye and will face either No. 5 seed Rutgers-Camden or No. 4 seed Montclair State in the semifinals on Thursday, November 3 in Pomona, NJ.
The Red Hawks will host Camden for its first-round match on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Montclair secured fourth after Rutgers-Camden squandered a two-set lead and fell to Ramapo 3-2 in Mahwah. Earlier this season, MSU swept Rutgers-Camden 3-0 in the Panzer Athletic Center on September 22. It will be the second straight season the two will play in the conference tournament as the Scarlet Raptors posted a 3-0 win in Camden last year.
The Ospreys put together a solid hitting performance posting a .407 hitting efficiency for the match. Tabitha Nejman (Runnemede, NJ / Our Lady of Mercy) and Stephanie Warner (Totowa, NJ / Passaic Valley) each had five kills with Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ / Fair Lawn) adding four. Libero Ashley Gubista (Massapequq, NY / Massapequa) led the way with 10 digs while Nicole Ober (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) served five of Stockton’s eight aces in the match.
Freshman Daniella Salemo (Ramsey, NJ / Ramsey) and sophomore Alyssa Batiste (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional) had four kills apiece for Montclair Sate while freshman Erika Gerner (Sparta, NJ / Sparta) registered three. Freshman Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ / Westwood) recorded 21 assists while libero Kaitlyn Irwin (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) led all players with 15 digs.
Both teams are in action on Saturday with tri-matches. Montclair State is in Hackettstown, NJ to take on Centenary and Manhattanville College beginning at 2:00 pm. Richard Stockton is at DeSales for a 12:00 pm match with the Bulldogs followed by a contest versus Neumann College.
